The capability to develop computer programs that learn through experience, using techniques such as deep neural networks, has generated significant interest across a wide range of fields, including medicine, biology, engineering, astronomy, economics, and law. The Machine Learning Symposium is a one-day applied Artificial Intelligence event to hear how researchers are applying machine learning techniques in their research, to be held on Monday 19th March 2018 at the National Centre for Synchrotron Science.

ANDS/NeCTAR/RDS are running 'train the trainer' events in February 2018 for research and data skills training, which would be of interest to research and data skills training providers at universities, research institutions, virtual laboratories and NCRIS facilities. The workshops will focus on training around research and data skills techniques applicable to any academic learners in universities, research institutions or virtual laboratories e.g. HDR students, early and mid career researchers, users of virtual laboratories or national eResearch infrastructure etc..

The 1st Advanced Scientific Programming (ASPP) in Python - Asia Pacific will be held at the Melbourne Neuroscience Institute, The University of Melbourne on Sunday 14th to Sunday 21st January 2018. This course is targeted at Master or PhD students and Post-docs from all areas of science, and will present a selection of advanced programming techniques and best practices which are standard in industry but especially tailored to the needs of a programming scientist. The ANSTO User Meeting 2017 will be held on Wednesday 22nd to Friday 24th November 2017. In 2017, this two and half day event will be held at the National Centre for Synchrotron Science (NCSS).
